Carolyn`s Family in Sydney

  • Start: February 2012
  • Program: Infant Qualified Program
  • Children: one girl (3 years old) and one boy, 8 months old)
  • Special Requirements: Pediatric Nurse

Our son Theodore is an amazing baby because he has survived being born with only half a heart. He

is truly a blessing to our family. His start to life was very tough. He spent just under 4 months in hospital, mostly in the intensive care unit. His condition is known as Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome and he has endured 3 open heart operations enabling his single ventricle heart to work. He cannot be cured but the doctors are able to make his special heart work for him. Because of this condition he is on many medicati

ons. His oxygen saturations are permanently in the 70s-80s and compared to other children you will notice his skin colour is more blue than pink. The most important thing for us in an Au Pair is honesty, kindness and experience. If you choose to be our Au Pair, we’ll try to involve you in all of our family activities if that’s what you want.

It is so exciting to see the children respond to you & your kindness. Our children are both involved in Occupational Therapy, Speech therapy and Early Intervention programmes and we are working with some of the most highly respected professionals in Australia. We would be delighted for you to attend programmes with us and be part of the collaborative team with these professionals. As well as being extremely rewarding work knowing that you have played such an important role in seeing these beautiful children develop into all that they can be, you will also gain invaluable experience that will benefit anyone working with Special Needs children professionally.

Eve is non verbal, full of energy & a keen sense of fun, very loving. At the same time very demanding & requiring intensive therapies & assistance. W

e live in Wurtulla, Sunshine Coast Queensl

and, we are blessed to live in such a beautiful place, a warm sub tropical climate with the most perfect bea

ches within walking distance from our home. Eve is a nature loving girl, we spend many hours in the family pool, down the beach or in the surrounding rainforests. Most of the time we are at home making it as much fun, educational & therapeutic for not just Eve but all family members. First & forth most our Au Pair needs to be fun, energetic, open-minded, loving, caring, patient & accepting & truly genuine in these traits, Eve has an uncanny ability to see through people if they are false or contrite in their actions. In short, you need to be with Eve because you want to be there, not because you have to be there. Believe me she knows the difference. We have undergone intensive training & sessions at the Sensory Gym in Sydney www.sensorygym.com.au to help with Eve’s sensory modulation & have found great success with Therapeutic Listening by means of Auditory Integration Training. In all, it is more of a lifestyle than therapy.

Dear au pair,

Greetings from Sydney, Australia, we are looking for an au pair to join our busy lives. Our family consists of me, Theresa, my husband, Corrin and our lovely girls Ava (3 in October) and Ruby (one). In addition we have four cats – Seth, Owen, Simba and Angel. Corrin and I are originally from South Africa and immigrated to Australia ten years ago. I am a banker working 3 days a week and Corrin works in financial services. We both commute to work in the city by train (45 minutes door to door each way).

Ava goes to day care two days a week and enjoys a range of activities:

Music lessons, Dancing lessons, Swimming lessons, Mandarin lessons

Ruby loves her swimming lessons and is getting into Mandarin as well. She is currently taking a few steps and probably only weeks away from walking by herself. The girls are both strong willed, utterly charming and sweet and responds well to structure and consistency. Ruby has a great sense of humour and she is constantly chatting away and Ava is an affectionate, busy little girl who loves numbers and reading.

We live in the leafy suburb of St Ives, which is on the North Shore of Sydney. Trains and busses run into the city and to the beautiful northern beaches on a regular basis. Australians love out door activities, going to the beach in summer and skiing in the winter and there are plenty outdoor dining and entertainment venues.

What we are looking for is an au pair with experience in child minding in particular dealing with infants and toddlers. Our au pair should love children and demonstrate

Theresa and Robin

patience and gentle consistency, which children in this age group require to flourish. We will need the au pair to work 45 hours per week. The primary focus is looking after Ruby and Ava Mondays to Fridays including transporting Ava to and from day care on Mondays and Tuesdays. A driver’s license is therefore required. Responsibilities include food preparation for the girls, reading and stimulating them with educational and physical activities, but we would also appreciate some help around the house with light chores and errands. You will have Saturdays and Sundays off (unless agreed in advance that you will baby sit for us on a given Saturday or Sunday). In the event that you would like to explore Australia some Fridays can be given off as well.
